relationship-based dog training

serving Portland, ORegon and surrounding areas

Hello! If you’re here, I’m guessing that you’re in need of some dog training.

Maybe you have a Very Good Dog, but you feel overwhelmed by their nuisance behaviors, leash pulling, or reactivity and it prevents you from doing the things you love with them like hitting the trail, camping, or hanging out at your favorite Portland brewery.

I have been there.

Since I was a child, I dreamed of having a dog who would be my ultimate adventure companion. Someone I could take along on trail runs, hikes, backpacking and camping trips. It took me most of my life to get there, but I’m happy to say that I am finally there.

I want to help you get there, too.

If you are looking to train your adventure dog to join you on your outdoor excursions in places like Mount Hood, the Columbia River Gorge, Oregon Coast and beyond, I would love to show you how to do just that.

Why Choose Libra Dog Training?

A Personalized Experience

Dogs are individual beings and training is not a one-size-fits all approach. Before we get started, I learn about your dog’s behaviors and personality and cater our training sessions to accommodate those needs in order reach your training goals.

I've been where you are

Each dog I’ve had has challenged me, whether through leash reactivity, pushy behaviors, anxiety, or over-excitement. They taught me to unlearn everything I thought I knew about dog ownership. I am the dog owner and trainer I am because of them, and I’m grateful for the experience.

Owner Education

When you work with me, not only do I teach your dog the skills they need to be a rockstar, I also educate you, the owner, so that you can have the confidence to navigate this world with your dog.

About Jen

Hello! My name is Jen and I am the owner of Libra Dog Training, founder of the adventure dog blog, Long Haul Trekkers, and author of The Essential Guide to Hiking with Dogs. I am also a content creator, freelance writer, and dog mom to a handsome Red Heeler mix named Sitka.

Client Testimonials

I rescued a one year old shepherd who was hyper, loud, and didn’t listen to any commands I would say. I found Jen Sotolongo, and after a 30 minute consultation, I was confident she could help my pup with her behavior issues! From the first training session, Jen was thorough and applied the necessary training specific to my dog, knowing what to focus on more so she benefits the most. By the last training session, my shepherd was a completely different dog! Jen created the necessary training and tools for me to set boundaries and get my dog to the point I wanted her to be at. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience and appreciate Jen’s expertise and patience with my dog and I!

Taylor Jensen

I had followed Jen for many years on Instagram, and after the pandemic and quarantine turned my once confident service dog into a separation/general anxiety ridden mess with leash reactivity and obedience issues any time he was “off-duty” or left alone, I knew I needed some help, so I reached out. I’m so glad I did, as my experience was phenomenal! I worked with Jen remotely, and she helped me learn the benefits of an e-collar, increase my dog’s confidence, and give me things to work on even after our time together, all done through the magic of Zoom! She was incredibly understanding and patient, which was very helpful as I have multiple invisible disabilities and needed some accommodations/flexibility. Plus, I know I have her as a resource for as long as Monty is with me, so if something else comes up, I have a trainer who knows me and my dog. Whether you’re in Portland or not, I highly recommend Jen and Libra Dog Training!
